What employers should know about refresher training

Certificate renewals are easier to manage with a clear training calendar, reminders, and records that stay audit-ready.

Refresher training is easiest when it is planned before certificates are close to expiry. Leaving renewals late can create gaps in cover, rushed bookings, and avoidable pressure on managers.

A simple register should include the learner, course, certificate date, renewal date, and whether the person is a primary or backup point of cover. Review it monthly and group renewals where possible.

Regular refreshers also improve confidence. People remember more when training is revisited before skills fade, especially for practical topics like first aid, manual handling, safeguarding, and emergency response.
